Personal Protection Dogs

Personal Protection Dogs

When shopping for a personal protection dogs (PPD) you need to keep a few things in mind.

Many web sites will lure you in with fancy titles (Executive protection level 1, 2, 3 ect). No such title actually exists. These are made up to give the buyer a sense that the dog is more then it actually is. Most trainers (me included) will find or train a sport level dog and fine tune it for a buyer. In doing this some trainer (I am not one of them) will tag on a flashy title to make the buyer think they are getting more then what they actually are. Every PPD Quality K-9 Concepts (QK9C) sells has achieved an actual title or has the ability to achieve one in one of many sport venues. Weathers it's Shutzhund, APPDA, PSA, or French Ring the title will be clearly advertised with the dog and a score sheet and score book will be provided to the buyer.

Some trainers will lure customers in with catchy training titles like "master trainer" knowing the potential buyer is uneducated in the world of dogs. They will BS their way though sells calls and first meetings using big words and demo dogs with years of training on them that have actually been trained by some one else. If I had to guess I would say 80% of all advertised "Master Trainers" have less then 8 years experience with dogs. Most came to dogs from other walks of life, learned some tricks and opened a kennel. Here at QK9C we have ONE master trainer, Jerry Lyda, who in his own right hates the title but is proficient in all aspects of dogs training. With over 34 years experience he has earned his self rejected title time and time again. Jerry has the ability to get dogs to do things many cannot, which is why he is such a vital member of our QK9C family.

Many kennels will over price their dogs looking to make a quick buck. Many will take your money and run. Once the sale is over you will have little to no luck finding them again. In my personal option no dog is worth $30K which is what most of these self proclaimed master trainers are selling theirs for. A PPD is as valuable as the buyer thinks it is. Trainers will take the buyers vulnerable state and exploit it to squeeze every last penny they can out of them. Selling dogs for obscene amounts of money knowing in their own mind the dog is actually worth half of the sells price, but knowing the buyer will shell out big money for a over advertised dog. Celebrities are the biggest targets these days. Trainers will over price dogs knowing celebs will pay the ticket price without batting an eye. This borders extortion. Then with out thinking of client confidentiality, paste pictures of every celeb that has bought a dog from them all over their web sites creating an action plan for any would be thief or stalker wishing harm on the celebrity. Now armed with the knowledge of the dog's presence, the thief or stalker can be on the look out for the newly acquired "Executive Protection III dog" and extinguish the threat as if it had never existed, and in a sense taking away the element of surprise the client thought they had purchased not knowing it had been broadcasted to the world on a web page.

In hopes to make a good impression most kennels will sell more dog then the buyer needs or can handle. Knowing they will not return it. A good PPD should be with you as much as possible. If the buyer can not control the dog what good is the dog? At QK9C we believe a PPD should become part of your family and a part of your life. If you have to crate the dog every time someone comes over the dog is no good to you. If the dog will only protect certain members of your family, the dog is no good to you. If you can not control the dog on and off leash, the dog is a liability and again no good to you. If you have to use tools to control the dog (ie electric collars) the dog is certainly no good to you.

At QK9C, your purchase is kept confidential. We will show you dogs we have trained, sit with you and discuss your options, and custom train a dog to fit your needs. You will be able to pick the breed and sex of the dog and our experience staff will be able to help you make the right decision. A series of question will better help us in helping you find the right fit for your budget. We price our dogs in compliance with market police service dog rates and give you a better product then expected. To date all of our past clients are more then satisfied with their choice in choosing QK9C and we receive constant updates on the dog's performance. When you purchase a dog from QK9C you become part of our family. Our staff is experienced in every aspect of dog training, and has the accolades to prove it. We will make sure the purchased dog fits your need and will train you to handle the dog in a comfortable one and one environment.

In closing, shopping for a PPD can be a very confusing and frustrating endeavor. Your choice will affect you for years to come weather it is in a good way or a negative one. We want you to have a positive experience and be happy with the choice you have made. The bottom line is the dog you choose may someday be called on to save your life, you need to make sure the dog you choose has the training and ability to do so. Flashy titles and catch phrases might sell you the dog, but it is the training that makes the dog. Be selective in where you shop, your life as well as your families may depend on your choice.

Our Personal Protection Dogs start at $5500 with the high trained dogs Priced at $10,500.

Thank you for considering QK9C
